DESCRIPTION OF THE PROJECT PRESENTED:
Three mill restorations, and a little street furniture: a new concern in the countryside. Functional requirements for observing tradition imply a deeper understanding of the customs, rather than simply mimicking traditional forms. In this regard, the opposite of tradition is not modernity, but uselessness. Tradition means still using local materials, the technical possibilities of workshops in the area, moderate innovation and, not least, the dialogue with the cultural landscape and a well preserved rural image. The language used allows thinking and extending the project for billboards and signs, for the selective collection and recycling, etc. The two starting points of the project are transparency towards the landscape, and positioning the benches in the shape of an „L” to simulate dialogue between the locals. Sitting like this on a bench, you cannot be parallel and indifferent to the other while waiting for the bus: after the visual acknowledgement, saying „howdy” is a must.
You follow tradition if you do what grandfather would have done today and not what grandfather did in his days. In this sense the opposite of tradition is uselessness, not modernity.
